Welcome to my December Holiday!
December is a wonderful month, and is probably one of the most festive of holiday seasons.
Here is a list of holidays in August that I celebrate.
- December 21: Winter Solstice or Yule
- December 25: Christmas
- December 31: New Year's Eve
The word "December" is derived from the Latin word 'decem' meaning 10. The gem for December is turquoise (for good health) and the flower is holly (for courage).
The Winter Solstice is the time of the shortest day and longest night. After the Winter Solstice, the days begin to grow longer. This is the beginning of winter. Traditions during the Winter Solstice (or Yule) include burning a Yule log and wassailing the trees. This is an ancient custom that includes blessing the trees and crops for bountiful yields in the next growing season. Stars are also an important symbol of Yule. In more modern times, the celebration of Christmas has borrowed from these traditions and include decorating a Christmas tree with lights and stars. As for bringing in the New Year, we only have it listed here with the December holidays because so many people actually celebrate on New Year's Eve.
To watch and protect all those who live here in December and those who are passing through, we have Katharina, Guardian of Winter.
You should also meet the Goddess of Winter, Fiona.
Before I get too far and forget, let me give you a few special links to some fun holiday places:
Here are the Limited Edition Christmas Pixies. Wow, we have some pixies who have been here for a very long time. We have the 1998 through 2001 Pixies, and then the 2004 Pixie.
Now you are ready to move on and meet some more of the December celebrants here at Midnight Enchantment.
