Our Wedding ~ The Ceremony

The Ceremony

Prince Gareth , having already been married, thought that Fairy Alma should have the major input about the wedding. Fairy Alma, having never wanted to be married, had no real preconceived wedding ideas. In fact, she wanted bare bones. Prince Gareth convinced her to have a little pomp and ceremony. Even still, they wanted to have their own traditions.

They decided to have the ceremony in their home. They have a beautiful front room with a large window, tiled floors, and an archway. Prince Gareth made the archway and they decorated it with live plants and lights. They draped lavender tulle around the window and hung purple beads from the curtain rod. One of Fairy Alma's friends gave them a huge, beautiful bouquet of roses from her garden and they placed that in the window.

So ... on to the ceremony!

One of Prince Gareth's friends, Gene, agreed to perform the ceremony. Everyone gathered in the front room surrounded by a few friends and family. In total, there were about 13 people at the actual ceremony. Prince Gareth's 81-year old uncle was his best man, and one of Fairy Alma's friends was her Lady-in-Waiting.

Fairy Alma had a pretty dress with pearls and sequins. Of course, she sprinkled fairy dust all over herself. Throughout the planning stages, she had assured Prince Gareth that it didn't matter what he wore as long as it didn't have any holes in it. (Prince Gareth is not really a suit and tie kind of guy.) Well, when the time for the wedding came, Prince Gareth comes out of his room dressed in the most beautiful tux in the world! Wow, was Fairy Alma surprised! In fact, she did cry. He was so handsome.

Gene performed the ceremony which was short and very sweet. They exchanged rings and vows. They did have one reading during the ceremony. Fairy Alma's friend Evelyn read from "The Prophet". Prince Gareth and Fairy Alma also lit a candle that they had made. The candle was colored pink, for love and was infused with special herbs.

There was a phone call during the ceremony and the answering machine picked up...It was Prince Gareth's cousin just wanting to extend her best wishes. There were a couple of other humorous moments during the ceremony and we'll try to remember them so that they can be recorded here.

After the ceremony, they took all the requisite pictures. One thing they did forget to do was assign an actual person to take pictures! So the photos shown were from friends and family.

This is during the ceremony. You can see Gene in front, with Prince Gareth and Fairy Alma facing you. They are standing under the beautiful archway that Prince Gareth built.

Same arrangement of people here, but this was one of those humorous moments during the ceremony and Prince Gareth is laughing at himself. It's probably something to do with Fairy Alma agreeing to obey him???
